Greece Trip

Turing Scheme Visit to Athens, Greece, February 2025

Fifteen Year 12 students went to Athens from Monday 10th-Friday 14th February. During this time we were welcomed by our partner school, The American College of Greece, the oldest American credited and the largest private college in Greece. We went during the schools Literary Festival, where students had to create their own version of a graphic novel. SASS students created short graphic novels where they had to re-imagine ancient myths in modern day settings. Their stories involved combining Greek characters from the past (such as Hercules and Medusa) with modern characters (such as Batman) to solve a problem. This theme was chosen to reflect the extraordinary influence of Greek myths in today's culture. Female empowerment was a major part of the theme. Greek mythology still stands as a timeless testament to the human imagination. AI generated pictures were used for the stories. SASS students presented their novels at one of the schools amphitheatres in front of an audience. This trip gave SASS students the opportunity to exchange ideas with like minded students from GreeceWe are extremely grateful for the warm welcome by The American College of Greece, they were incredibly kind and went to great lengths to make us feel comfortable. For example, their students performed traditional Greek dancing for our students. As part of the project, SASS students also visited some of the famous archaeological sites in Athens, including the Acropolis and Parthenon, to understand the history of Greek mythology. A massive thank you to Ms Jech and Mr Trueman for all their hard work during the trip, they made sure the students were well looked after and made sure everything ran smoothly.
